Mrs. Prather is a native of Naples, FL. She studied at the Brevard Summer Music Camps and Chatauqua Institution when she was in high school. She received her bachelor’s degree in Music Education from  Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX in 1993, where she was a recipient of the Meadows School of the Arts Artistic Scholarship for Piano Performance. While attending college, her main instruments were piano and pipe organ.
 
She began teaching elementary school music in the public schools in Irving, TX in 1993, and taught there for the next three years. She ran a before and after school piano lab program during this time . While teaching in Irving she won the PTA Lifetime Membership Award for outstanding service to her school.
 
Upon moving to Atlanta in 1996, she taught in the DeKalb County Public Schools for 3 years, again teaching elementary school music. She piloted the Yamaha Music In Education Keyboard System at E.L. Bouie Traditional Theme School. She also played in the DeKalb Piano Octet, an ensemble of eight pianists. In 1999, Mrs. Prather began teaching general music at Hopkins Elementary School in Gwinnett County. She completed her Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Georgia State University and also graduated from the Gwinnett County Public Schools’ Leadership Academy for aspiring administrators in 2001.
 
Currently Mrs. Prather teaches piano lessons part time, but her full-time job is being a wife and mother of her seven-year old daughter, Anna and three-year old son Grant.
